Biography

Tekst was an electroacoustic chamber music ensemble that was founded in 1981. It grew out of a progressive rock band Warm Jets and its original members included Glenn Frew (guitar, synthesizer, percussion & voice), John Korcok (synthesizer, saxophone & voice), Richard Truhlar (voice, synthesizer & tape treatments) and Mara Zibens (synthesizers, voice & tape treatments). In 1982, Korcok left the group and percussionist/sound engineer Keith Potts became a member.

During its 5-year life span (1981-1985), Tekst gave numerous performances throughout the greater Toronto area and Southwestern Ontario, and as well produced 4 album-length audiocassettes of their works: Avatamsaka's Wave Packet, Unexpected Passage, Infinite Anatomies and Moving Human Coils.

Their performance venues were diverse, as their music appealed to a broad range of listeners, and included the Music Gallery, Harbourfront, The Rivoli, York University and the Hamilton Art Gallery.
