Warm Jets
|
The Warm Jets was formed in 1979 when guitarist/songwriter Glenn Frew invited vocalist/composer Richard Truhlar to join him in some impromptu basements rehearsals where they began by playing and arranging songs by the Brian Eno, the Talking Heads, the B52s and others. Shortly thereafter, they invited keyboardist/composer Mara Zibens to join them, and together they began to craft original songs. Their goal was to create a progressive art rock band that would blend experiment with accessibility, and to this end they began to recruit new members. They were joined initially by keyboardist/saxophonist John Korcok, bassist David Sheftel and drummer Warren Young, with bassist/keyboardist Mark Kersey and drummer David Hutchison later replacing Sheftel and Young respectively. Over a two year period, the Warm Jets performed throughout Toronto and wrote highly evocative songs including such titles as Stairs, Talking about you, Cage without a Key, Taxi, Guantanamé/Rimbaud, Red Head, Silence and Glass, Faces, Wood and Air and Lady You Know. With Truhlar's departure from the band in late 1980, the Warm Jets disbanded, but Truhlar, Zibens, Frew and Korcok went on to form the electroacoustic chamber ensemble Tekst. |
